What's common between a horse with blinders and Arjuna from Mahabharat aiming his bow and arrow towards the fish's eye?
It's the focus and determination to win.
For the horse, theprimary reason for the blinders is to avoid any distraction by limiting his view of the side. And likewise, for Arjuna, his single minded approach to aim at the fish's eye mentally blocked him from theenvironment and surroundings and thus, picture only his target.
Therefore, for every person theirfocus in life too should be like aiming for the moon; even if they miss it, they'll land among the stars. This concentration helps people reach their goal in every aspect of life, professional or personal.
We all have some targets set for ourselves. These goals can be as simple as having one meal with the family to aiming at being the CEO of a company. But not many of us perceivesboth these significant tasks with the same eye. Our approach, priority and thus, focus differsas we try to achieve them.
We know the family won't mind if we don't make it to the dinner table one day. On the other hand, the thought of losing sight of that CEO chair doesn't even cross our minds for even a day.
The attitude is what makes one more important than the other. We say, don't change the outlook and weigh both on the same scale. Sounds weird? No, it's not. Just pause, breathe, think and work towards it. Stay focused as a key to success in life is all as much about the attitude and mindset as about the skill set. The minute the approach changes, the bigger picture becomes clearer and concentration on minuscule things automatically diminishes. For eg. Just by reading and responding to less important emails on-the-go can make you reach that family dinner in time and help achieve the work life balance you always wished to have. After all, the one life that you get is to manage both and not chose from one of the two.
We conclude by saying, live your life wearing blinders and stay focused on all the important things. Make everything that makes you happy a priority and every time you smile or laugh hard an achievement. Ultimately, it is these little thingsthat make the journey fun and interesting. Failures hurt less and happiness of achievement doubles as we accomplish our goals.
Life is not about one, but a lot of things together. Thus, emphasis in life too should remain towards all of them.
Finally, in the word of Jack Canfield an American Author who rightly said, "Successful people maintain a positive focus in life no matter what is going on around them. They stay focused on their past successes rather than their past failures, and on the next action steps they need to take to get them closer to the fulfillment of their goals rather than all the other distractions that life presents to them."
