WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

India is still a developing country. It has been a developing country since a long time. This long stretch towards being a developed nation is an impending task which needs to be tackled soon. It seems as though something is lacking. Only half of our population is working towards this goal. No, this half is not the literate ones, but the males. India is regarded as a male dominated society. The female half, equally talented and willing to work towards this success are not given the chances to show their talents. Hofstede’s cultural dimensions which define how values in a place are defined by its culture, calls India "a masculine society", which also includes countries like China, Pakistan and Arab countries. All these countries focus on visual displays of success and power, despite the fact it scores barely above the midrange and where they lack is providing all the opportunities to only the male part of their society. The Female half is neglected and often regarded as home makers and given "feminine jobs" like nursing, teaching, care takers and taking care of the young ones. Females have no objection doing these, but restricting them to these is not fair. We need to provide them the same opportunities since birth as men.

Women empowerment does not mean demeaning the males or in any way taking away their chances. It is how women expand and recreate what it is that they can be, do, and accomplish in a circumstance that they previously were denied. To make a country successful, all of the population needs to work towards it. Females are much easier to work with than males. They accept the learning ways much easily and are calmer too.

The older times saw people like Leonardo Da Vinci, Mozart and Beethoven - men who had fine motor dexterity, could sit for long periods of time, had beautiful handwriting and who were interested in arts, literature, music and writing. They were never questioned about gender roles and male identities. Then why now do want people to stick to their traditional gender norms and do only what is expected of them to do. A working father doing his duty like picking up the kids at school one day or taking them to the park once in a while is considered a very good and devoted father. But a working mother is said to be careless and negligent, instead of career focused. A working woman can also be a home maker, just as a working male is a good father. Feminism isn’t about making women stronger. They already are. It’s about changing the way world perceives that strength. Start with encouraging people to treat them equally. Stop putting them under the traditional norms and let them be whatever they want to. Pay them equally and support their dreams.
