The quote in my understanding means: The beginning of anything may seem extraordinarily difficult with seemingly no purpose or end in sight, but it's well worth it once you get to the top and hit your "stride". You can then appreciate how hard it was to get there and how easy it has become. There's no going down, it'd be a steep fall from the top and you definitely don't want to have to do it all over again once you've already "made it."
This makes me think of a song, The Climb. Here are some of it’s lyrics:
"I can almost see it
That dream I'm dreaming but
There's a voice inside my head saying
You'll never reach it,
Every step I'm taking,
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking but I
Gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held high
There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb"
The song captures the exact meaning of the quote. You can envision and almost touch your dream. But there is an inside voice that doubts you. It makes your question about the whole idea. Even if you ignore it and try to move towards your destiny, it feels as if you are lost without any direction at all. Your faith starts to shake. But despite this all you should keep trying and keep your head held up high, because there is no use stopping to get what you want as you may move away from this mountain of a problem, but there will always be another mountain. And you will want to make it move. It will always be an uphill battle with you against the mountain (problem). You will lose many times and the other times? It’s not about how fast you’ll get there. It’s all about the climb, overcoming the problem.
All the chances and all the struggles that you face during this climb may knock you down many times and you may have to restart the journey, but not giving up here is what matters in the long run. You not know it now, but these the moments, the times that you will always remember, even after you complete the climb. These make you humble and remind you always where you come from.
It is definitely easy to go down a hill than up, but the view is from top. So go on. Giddy up to climb your mountains and touch the skies.
