HUMAN BRAIN

The human brain is the most dynamic and efficient machine ever created. No new iPhone or supercomputer can come close to its abilities. The brain is the most powerful organ humans possess that few of us come close to using it to its maximum potential. The multifaceted organ processes facts and faces, stores memories, sweeps out toxins, controls movement and speech and makes decisions.

The brain is contains a complex nexus of neurons which are constantly working hard to relay on the messages to all the organs. There are more cell connection points in the human brain than there are stars in our galaxy. As Norman Cousins put it, "Not even the universe with all its countless billions of galaxies represents greater wonder or complexity than the human brain." The brain is divided into grey matter and white matter in 40:60 ratio. The senses of the body and control of the muscles is coordinated by the grey matter; it is where the real processing takes place. The white matter controls the functions that the body is unaware of, like temperature, blood pressure and the heart rate.

The main difference between a computer and human brain is that computers lack intuition. Experts argue that, "Computer, not having intuition, must analyse every possible move and permutation of that move before deciding on a course of action.

The human mind, in contrast, eliminates 99% of the options by intuition." Humans rely immensely on their gut feeling or intuition in their everyday life, whether it is avoiding a certain part of town or strangers. The mind has to constantly make judgements which are actually the result of a highly sophisticated form of judgement. Although it might sound simple, thinking is the greatest ability of humans. As Descartes said, "I think, therefore I am." No other organism can think like a human can and thinking is its greatest prized ability. One cannot help but be impressed with the profusely formidable intelligence of the human mind.
