GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY

"I wish I could show you, when you are lonely or in darkness, the astonishing light of your own being." ~ Hafiz of Shiraz

Without your realizing it, you are being caught up in habitual ways of thinking and feeling that dominate most of your day. Your mind goes on endlessly with judgements, resentment, worries, expectations and ideas about what should and shouldn't happen. Life is happening, but with a constant inner commentary about how things aren't quite right. No wonder we cannot be happy and satisfied. We are being captivated by our own thoughts and feelings which actually do not even weigh in for the matter. These feelings of doubt are always there and these linger within our minds with whatever we do and make us feel unaccomplished. Getting out of your own ways means becoming very familiar with your inner self. You learn what makes you suffer, make your peace with it and stop it from tormenting yourself. When you do, you see what is actually happening: the pain of being stuck in an old resentment that has been dragging you down, the constricting effect of believing your thoughts, and the chaos that comes from letting your feelings rule. Getting out of your own way means somehow putting aside the "mental block" and the critical inner voices. How can we get out of our own way? Set aside time for yourself- Make time for yourself. Talk to yourself. Know your anxieties. Reason with yourself on them.

Try eliminating them. Work on them and make sure to remove your insecurities too. Know your feelings too. Understand the. Don't crush them or avoid them. They are how your body and mind communicates with yourself. Stop comparing yourself to others- compare your life with your own. You cannot compare yourself with everyone and expect to be happy. They have their own reasons and you don't know their real life. Make sure you do better than what YOU did last time. You are running a race against yourself only. This will make you feel good as you are not constantly comparing yourself with others.

Make your peace with your past- the mistakes you've done in the past should not stop you from doing something in the present. That is the past and make sure it stays in the past. Learn from them and let them be your guide lines for the future, not the obstructions.

When you get out of the way, you stop resisting life. The focus shifts from what you don't have to what is here and available. No longer doubting everything, you receive what life offers you. And rather than living in the mind-created past or future, you are available to the simplicity of this now moment. Unclouded by mental noise, you become crystal clear about what to do next. You tell the truth about what is and isn't working. And you take practical steps to begin truly living.
